The Queen's Jubilee

Date: 26th May 2022 @ 12:16pm

We have had a wonderful week celebrating all things “Jubilee” for the Queen’s 70th Jubilee. The children have carried out lots of different activities linked to the Queen.

We have……

  • learnt facts and asked questions about the Queen
  • painted portraits of the Queen
  • looked at the Queen’s family tree
  • had a virtual look around ‘Buckingham Palace’
  • looked at photographs of the Queen in the past
  • made our own crowns (practising our scissor and design skills)
  • made union jack flags, bunting and paper chains
  • wrote a card to the Queen
  • thought about what we would do if we were the Queen for a day
  • wrote sentences about what we could see at a party

And today we had a celebratory picnic in the hall with the whole school and had an ice cream!

Some comments from the children;

“The Queen lives in Buckingham Palace in London”

“I’ve seen Big Ben and it’s giant”

“I saw the bridge and a boat when I went to London”

“The river Thames is under the London Bridge”

“The Queen has been our Queen for 70 years”

“90 years is a long time ago”

“the Queen is 96, the Queen is 100 in 4 years”

“the Queen’s dad died and now that the King has died it is the Queen that took the King’s place”

“the photos of the Queen are in black and white, it’s in the older days”

What does the Queen do?

“she washes dishes…..no a butler will do that”

“waves to us”

“comes to see us”

“sees lots of people”

We hope you enjoy looking at our photos. Ask your child to tell you something that they have enjoyed when learning about the Queen. We hope you all have a lovely half term and enjoy your long weekend celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee! See you back in school on Tuesday 7th June!
