Science week - Connections

Date: 21st Mar 2023 @ 8:25am

We asked the children 'what is science?'

"Science is where we make potions"
"You do maths in science"
"Scientists learn new things"
"It makes things bigger" (microscope)
"they mix potions together and it goes bang"

CONNECTIONS - was the theme for this years Science Week.
We explored the connections around us e.g. family, school, technology, community.
"connections means you are with somebody"
"connections is when you put things together"
"we are connected to our friends"
"things in your house can be connected like electrical wires"

We looked at a map of our school and talked about the area and how we are all connected as a community. We listed all the people that we come across in our day to day life. We discussed the importance of technology in our world and how we can connect to others. Some of our children shared that they use facetime to speak to their families who live abroad in China, India, Spain and Albania!

This led us to think about technology - the children were able to talk about lots of technology around them - Ipad, phone, tablet, telephone, computer.

The children then went on a walk around school to look at the different connections and technology that we have around school.
"we can watch people on the camera, but they cannot see us"
"we can communicate by sending letters"
"the people in the office open the door and have to let the visitors in"
"they use the telephone to call my mum or nana"
"that is the man who fixes things" (our  wonderful caretaker Mr Fairhurst!)
"the dinner ladies make our dinner"

We are creating a new display in our classroom to celebrate Science week.....watch this space!
