Nursery Rhyme Week - 5 little speckled frogs

Date: 14th Nov 2022 @ 4:13pm

It's Nursery Rhyme week and we are so excited! Every day we will learn a brand new Nursery rhyme and do lots of learning and have lots of fun around the theme.

This week we will be looking at:

  • 5 little speckled frogs
  • 1,2,3,4,5 Once I caught a fish alive
  • B.I.N.G.O
  • The big ship sails
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Today we started the week off with 5 little speckled frogs. We enjoyed singing the rhyme and practising our counting skills. The children were so good at subitising to 5! (Subitising means counting really quickly in our heads.)

We used our strong hand muscles to pick up bugs with the tweezers and feed them to Mr Frog. He thought they were delicious but we weren't so sure! Mrs Davies made us green playdough so that we could make frogs.

We practised asking questions about things that we would like to learn about frogs and we had some great ideas.

  • 'What do frogs eat?'
  • 'Where do frogs live?'
  • 'Does frogs eat some of bugs?'
  • 'Do they come in a house?'

We found out that frogs like to eat bugs (eww!) and they like to live where there is water. We also looked at some of the more colourful frogs in hotter countries. After this, we looked at the life cycle of a frog and the children had a go at drawing and making frog spawn and tadpoles.

I have attached the lyrics to today's Nursery Rhyme to this post for you.

Tomorrow we will be looking at 1,2,3,4,5 and learning all about fish!
