Ecology Club

Welcome to Ecology Club

In partnership with Children In Need and Family Action

Below are the ten activities you will need to complete over the Half Term Holiday. Then take a photograph or bring the work with you to the Sure Start building behind our school to collect your second food bag.

All the resources you need should have been given to you when you collected your first food bag.

For some activities, you will need to watch the short video while others will be explained on the instructional posters.

We hope you enjoy spending time with your family and learning more about the world around you.

Activity 1: Bug Hunt

Check out the video below for more information!

Activity 2: Bird Watch

Check out the video below for more information!

Activity 3: Natural Art

Check out the video below for more information!

Activity 4: Hedgehog Hotel

Check the hedgehog hotel poster provided. Using a shoe box or something similar, fill it with newspaper or leaves and cover the box with plastic sheeting. Do not cover it with fabric as the hedgehogs can get stuck in the material and then cannot escape. Then cover the plastic material in leaves to disguise it from its surroundings.

Activity 5: Bird Feeder

Check out the video below for more information!

Once you have left the lard to set in a fridge, cut the cup away and hang the feeder on a nearby tree or bush.

Activity 6: Litter Picking

Using the litter pickers provided, go for a walk with an adult and see if you can help keep your local environment tidy by putting litter safely in a bin bag or local bin. Make sure to not pick things up with your hands as there may be hidden sharp objects and only do this with a trusted adult.

Activity 7: Pebble Painting

See if you can find a pebble or rock on your walk and using the paint provided, decorate it in the style of a minibeast or maybe a local landscape that you can see!

Take a photo or bring the art work back to the Sure Start building so we can see what you have been up to!

Activity 8: Duck Feeding

Using the duck feed provided, see if you can go with a trusted adult to an area of water where ducks gather. Carefully and safely stand back from the water's edge and gently throw the feed to the animals. See how many different types of bird you can see in the water.

Make sure you stay close to your adult and do not attempt to go near deep water.

As always take a photo of your little adventure and let us know what you have been up to!

Activity 9: Pine Cone Feeder

Check out the video below for more information!

Once you have left it to set in the fridge, hang it on a nearby tree or bush.

Activity 10: Wild Flowers

Using the seeds provided, see if you can plant them in your local environment or even your garden or a plant pot at home. During the colder months they will grow better inside but once they start to flower, take them outside so that bees and other insects can use them to pollinate.
